Samsung Electronics wins more drone patents in U.S.

Samsung Electronics, which has been eager in stretching its electronics prowess to a range of automated technologies, has acquired two patents related to drone design and technology in the U.S. this month, joining the segment already with Apple, Google and Amazon on board.

Samsung Electronics registered two drone patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Mar. 13 and 27, industry sources said Friday.

The USPTO posted a patent number, applicant and inventor information with a basic design of two drones on its website ( http://www.uspto.gov) but no technical information was released.

The drones have two right wings and two left wings, a long body and two skids found in a helicopter.

Industry watchers said Samsung will speed up its research in the drone area at home and abroad, although the patents do not indicate that Samsung will begin drone production soon.

Samsung Electronics has applied for several patents related to drone design and technology in the U.S. since 2016, showing its efforts to take the lead in terms of technology to prepare for potential competition with global players in the area.
